UNIJOS Suspends Lectures, Issues Notice to all Students 2019/2020
University of Jos, UNIJOS Suspends Lectures for the Second (2nd) Semester for 2019/2020 Academic Session, Issues Notice to all Students.
You will recall that the University Senate at its 2nd Regular meeting for the 2019/2020 Academic Session held on Tuesday, 11th May 2021 deliberated on the above subject matter and unanimously agreed that all students should vacate the hostels until further notice.
Following the closure of hostels and the subsequent commencement of lectures after examination, the Students Union delegation visited the Plateau State Commissioner of Police seeking to know the security situation to enable them to go back to the hostels.
Senate at its 2nd Emergency meeting held on Wednesday, 19th May 2021, the Chief Security Officer of the University who was in attendance at the meeting with the Students Union and the Commissioner of Police, reported to the Senate the advice of the Commissioner of Police to still allow two (2) weeks for them to review the security situation and advise the University.
Senate deliberated on the matter and resolved it as follows:
Senate unanimously ratified the decision of Management that all students Hostels should remain closed to both under graduate and Post-graduate students pending the receipt of a favourable security report from the Office of Plateau State Commissioner of Police.
That 2nd-semester lectures for undergraduate students be suspended until 7th of June 2021 pending a review of the security situation.
That Postgraduate students are to continue with their academic activities.
Senate directed that the Directorate of Physical Facilities should make use of the period of the absence of students to fix up all necessary repairs in the hostels.
