JAMB Breaks Silence, Speaks On Mass Failure in 2021 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) finally breaks silence and debunked news of mass failure in the ongoing 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nationwide.JAMB Breaks Silence, Speaks On Mass Failure in 2021 UTME

According to the board, this year’s performance is not significantly different from those of previous years.

The board said it is a fluke and a campaign by those whose source of illicit income had been blocked.

This is even as it denied that the questions set for the subjects like Literature in English were based on the wrong syllabus.

The Head, Public Affairs and Protocol of JAMB Dr. Fabian Benjamin said: “The board ordinarily would not have reacted to the half-truth being peddled by some disgruntled candidates, who were ill-prepared for the examination and who, true to all expectations, performed below the expectations of their guardians, that the Board had based its questions on the wrong syllabus.”

“It is our belief that based on facts on the ground, every right-thinking Nigerian would question the 6,944,368 figure on which the 14% “pass” is based.

For instance, in the 2021 UTME, 1, 415,501 registered for both UTME/DE. Out of this figure, 1,340,003 candidates registered for UTME and 75, 498 registered for DE,” he said.

He however said the truth of the matter is that all UTME questions are based on texts prescribed for the UTME in its syllabus.

According to him, to ensure that its syllabus is accessible to all candidates sitting its examination, the Board made the material available on three platforms.

The syllabus was issued to candidates through:

  1. The Board’s Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS)
  2. The CD which is given to candidates after completion of registration
  3. The link https://www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng. as provided with the candidates’ profile code and which was also published on Edustuff.

It is not automatic that the NECO/WAEC syllabus should transform into JAMB’s otherwise there would not have been a need for a separate syllabus for the UTME,” he said.

While noting that the UTME is not school-based and not an achievement test but a selection or ranking test which ordinarily does not require a syllabus, he said it does not have room for fail or pass as in achievement tests.

  1. Edustuff thanks for the information……Jamb is just looking for excuses…….The 2021 UTME was a total failure. Prof. Ishaaq said candidates were ill prepared for the exam……this is not true………with all due respect sir,
Why/How will he alter that kind of thing?

Do you know for how long some candidates have been preparing for UTME?

I don’t expect what I saw as my aggregate at all..
The questions asked on government Economics English were very simple for me except the Mathematics questions that were totally wrong and even options were wrong ..

Jamb can prove this by viewing the questions asked on Monday 21st June 2021 on mathematics..

Just imagine people that got 250 and above last year got 125, 142,165,174,187,160etc.

Jamb we didn’t expect failure as how.
How do you want to promote our Foreign policy???

If anything is not done about the poor results……..many lives will be jeopardize, ruin….

Or are we the one that brought COVID-19 into the country or announced lockdown.

Stop using us to make money.
    Enough of this rubbish

Did you know how much we spent on NIN?
    Texting NIN to 55019
    Checking results through SMS..

Jamb you just turn us to money making machine…….if they fail they will sit jamb next or do change of course or institution….

To do change of course is 2,500
Any correction of data is 2,500

Some don’t have parents, still they want to go school……..they hustle for money…..at the end of it….you fail them

    What’s a bad country.

WAEC or NECO will say malpractice or give our script to STUDENTS for marking…

Ministry of EDUCATION……..Do something please Please.

    Thanks for your understanding

    • You are really on point, when I saw my result I could not cry coz it was surprising last year I got 220 and this year after all the preparations I got 185 I can’t even tell people about it coz they will be shocked

    • Guy you said the truth

These people are not considering their candidates at all..
He said we were not prepared, 6 months of extramoral classes no be here..some of us that work had to forfeit our work to attend extramoral classes still they give us this nonsense as our mark
      Its unfair.

  2. Yes I agree it’s unfair, after all the preparation they are making excuses that we do not prepare.fraudsters

  3. Seriously, i support you, ministry of education accept this that students studied and their expectations were cut short. To me that use of syllable that was given is different from the questions except from the known novels in English and literature.
