At the morning assembly, the principal, Mr. Bepo Adewale, walked to the podium with an unusual, slow gait, lacking his usual smart demeanor and trademark smile. He appeared blank and unable to speak, even after taking the microphone. Tears began to flow as he struggled to communicate, dropping the microphone and sobbing uncontrollably. Staff members, including the Vice Principal, Mrs. Grace Apeh, and the school nurse, tried to console him, but he remained silent, overwhelmed by his emotions.
The assembly ended abruptly, and Mr. Adewale was escorted to his office where his distress continued. Teachers speculated about his behavior, while parents became concerned, with some hearing alarming reports about his condition. The school had just celebrated its success in the WASSCE exams, adding to the strange contrast of the principal’s behavior. Mrs. Apeh contacted the school’s Managing Director, Mrs. Ibidun Gloss, who hurried to the school.
