The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has been one of the most trending topics for the day in Nigeria over the strike the union embarked on since the month of March, 2020.

In an interview on Saturday, the The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said that they are yet to call of the strike or even reach any concrete agreement with the Federal government.

This was revealed by the ASUU Chairman of University of Calabar, Dr Edor J. Edor. While speaking he made it clear that the union wants to ensure that the problem is completely solved to avoid any other issue.

If we can recall, ASUU held a meeting with the Federal government in Abuja on Friday, wfere the Federal Government described the meeting as fruitful, though it raises hope the union said it is yet to reach any agreement.

Furthermore, Dr Edor J. Edorsaud that only the union branches can suspend the current industrial action.

His statement:

“It’s the branches of ASUU that has the supreme power to say we have heard government’s proposal and are comfortable or we are not comfortable.

“For now, the branches have not held their congresses and we may hold our congresses early next week then we will decide if to call off strike or not.

“The situation as it is now is that between ASUU and the federal government there is no agreement yet.

Conclusively, he made it clear that the union will hold a Congress next week to know the next thing to do, wether to suspend the strike or continue.
