Despite the Federal Government new update that the January 18 resumption date for schools may be postponed after review, the Bauchi State Government maintained that schools in the state will still reopen on January 18 nevertheless.

This new notice was communicated to the public by The state commissioner of education, Aliyu Tilde on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi and made available to Edustuff readers.

According to him 4,816 schools in Bauchi state will resume on January 18, 2020 for the 2020/2021 academic session.

He said the previous lockdown of schools, as a result of the pandemic, had negatively affected the school calendar, hence government’s resolve to resume school at the earlier scheduled date.

Any school found not adhering strictly to the protocols would be sanctioned appropriately, Mr Tilde said, explaining that till date no single case of the disease had been recorded in the state’s schools.

The commissioner stressed that full academic activities would begin in earnest across the 4,600 primary and Junior Secondary schools, as well as the 216 Senior Secondary schools, across the 20 local government areas of the state on the stipulated date.

He called on parents and guardians to be ready for the school resumption date, saying, ”we were supposed to resume school since the 4th of January this year, but we had to follow the federal government’s directive of January 18th”.

“We have since fumigated all our schools, including the four existing tertiary institutions, to guard against any eventuality ” he added.

The schools in the state will reopen for first term which was supposed to begin in September.
